Reiki

Portsmouth Regional hospital has been offering Reiki to patients and staff since 1997. Reiki (pronounced RAY-kee) is a non-invasive, hands-on healing method used to restore and balance the body's energy.

We offer patients a 20 minute session, free of charge, in their hospital room. If you would like to receive Reiki prior to surgery, please call 433-4837 to schedule a session. We will make every attempt to honor your request.

Reiki practitioners create a relaxing atmosphere by dimming the lights and putting on quiet music. With your permission, they gently lay their hands on your head, shoulders, knees, ankles, and feet. Energy is transferred to you through the hands of the practitioner.

The majority of people experience a deep relaxation with a Reiki treatment which can be measured by a decrease in blood pressure and heart rate and a slowing and deepening of the breath. Many report a sense of warmth, calmness, and peacefulness. Your stress and pain levels may decrease after a Reiki session, thereby helping you recover from your illness, surgery, or birthing experience.
